Year-End Editorial 2025: “Closing a Year of Challenges and Entering 2026 with Purpose”
By Elias M. Gutiérrez – Founder, Editor, and Publisher of Latino Press.
As we arrive at the final edition of the year, Detroit invites us to reflect on everything we experienced throughout 2025. It has been a year marked by significant challenges: the continued rise in the cost of living, economic shifts affecting both families and small businesses, and the arrival of new immigrants seeking a place to rebuild their lives.
Yet even in the face of these difficulties, our Hispanic community demonstrated once again its greatest strength: the ability to remain united.
This year, we witnessed the spirit of collaboration grow stronger. We saw Latino entrepreneurs work tirelessly to sustain their businesses, community organizations expand their efforts to provide legal assistance, education, housing, and healthcare, and volunteers, students, and professionals step forward time and time again to support those in need. We also shared powerful stories of resilience that reminded Detroit — and all of Michigan — of the immense value immigrants contribute every day.
For Latino Press, 2025 was also a year of gratitude. We had the opportunity to amplify voices that deserve to be heard, publish stories that strengthen our cultural identity, and stand alongside families facing difficult circumstances. Our annual Christmas Food Box Project, which supported 300 households this December, reaffirmed that solidarity is not a single act — it is the shared spirit that guides our community.
Now, as we prepare to welcome 2026, we do so with hope and determination. May the coming year bring new opportunities to strengthen our businesses, uplift our families, and actively participate in Detroit’s continued transformation.
Yes, 2026 will bring new challenges, but also new possibilities. And if this year has shown us anything, it is that the Hispanic community knows how to move forward even in the toughest of times.
On behalf of Latino Press, thank you for trusting us, for reading our stories, for supporting our mission, and for allowing us to remain a bridge of information and connection for our community.
May the new year bring health, unity, prosperity, and the conviction that together, we can always achieve more.
Happy New Year 2026.
