Detroit Pistons win in NBA playoffs after 17 years and tie series against Knicks

The Detroit Pistons tied the series 1-1 against the New York Knicks in the first round of the NBA playoffs, with a historic result for the Michigan team.

After losing 123-112 in their return to the NBA postseason last Saturday, J.B. Bickerstaff’s Pistons bounced back with a 100-94 victory on Monday at the iconic Madison Square Garden.

The Pistons started the second game of the series with clear intentions of winning, as they scored 25 points in the first quarter and added 30 more in the second, heading into halftime with 55 points.

Cade Cunningham, the Pistons’ star player, was the standout figure for the Michigan team, as he shone in his 42 minutes of play with 33 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 assists. Tobias Harris, Jalen Duren, and German player Dennis Schröder also stood out in the victory.

“It’s a great feeling. It feels good to represent the city like we did tonight. It’s something the city has been waiting for a long time, so we feel good about it and we’re ready to get back to the crib and perform in front of them,” Cunningham said after the game.

The Pistons’ victory over the Knicks marked a major milestone for the franchise, as it was their first postseason win since 2008. Fans in the “Motor City” were finally able to celebrate a playoff victory after 17 long years.

In addition, with Monday’s result, the Detroit Pistons ended a negative streak of 15 consecutive playoff losses, as the team had failed to secure a win in their most recent postseason appearances.
