As we prepare to welcome more than 600 Afghan arrivals to Southeast Michigan, Global Detroit has been helping to lead the Southeast Michigan Regional Refugee Resettlement Collaborative. We first helped form this collaborative in 2016 but put the work on hold when refugee resettlement was cut drastically the following year.
This year, partners asked Global Detroit to help restart the Collaborative to create a coordinated approach to supporting new refugees and Afghan arrivals. In addition to these efforts, the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity and Office of Global Michigan have created a central portal for coordinating volunteers and donations for Afghan arrivals.
